Dr. Douglas Kern offers over 29 years of experience and 20 years of board certification; always promising to give you his best. He grew up in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls earning his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in chemistry. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and received a Bachelor of Science degree in veterinary science and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Dr. Kern completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship, immediately afterward joining the staff of doctors, at Rowley Memorial Animal Hospital (MSPCA) in Springfield, MA. He also received training at Angell Memorial (Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston) and Tufts College of Veterinary Medicine prior to completing his surgery residency at Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, College of Veterinary Medicine) where he also completed a Master of Science (MS) degree in veterinary science.
Dr. Kern obtained diplomate certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1996. Our clinic is the continuation of referral surgery services provided by Dr. Douglas A. Kern in Maine since 2003. We provide the highest quality surgical treatment and specialty care for your companion animals. Animal Surgery & Advocacy Services strives to provide to our colleagues, their clients and pets excellence in surgical service. We are committed to the complete recovery for the people and the pets we serve. Due to persistent demand from his clients, Dr. Kern opened the practice to include general veterinary care in 2014.
